The MDP offers very competitive terms and conditions, similar to those of other Home Department Police Forces.
The minimum starting pay for newly recruited MDP Constables is £23,541. Thereafter, increases in pay are reviewed annually and linked to performance. Within six years, you could be earning over £39,074. Locational allowances are also payable at specific sites.
New recruits are entitled to 22 days’ annual leave at entry, rising to 30 days after 20 years’ service.
New Entrants from Other Forces (NEOFs)
The starting salary of all serving police officers who join the MDP from other forces will be determined by the length of service the officer has completed with their previous force. For example, a Constable who has completed 5 years police service will join the MDP on Pay Point 5 of the MDP Constables’ pay scale. Officers will retain their original pay increment date. Annual leave entitlement will be honoured in the same way, with officers receiving the entitlement commensurate with their length of service.
MDP no longer pays housing allowance or CRTP to officers joining from other forces.
The rewards of service with the MDP, from April 1st 2015, include access to the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme (ALPHA). Alpha is a defined benefit scheme (Career Average) in which your pension builds up as a percentage of your actual pensionable earnings, giving you a pension that compares well with much of the private sector.
