100k Charity Run
On 26th October, PC Mulroy is running 100k to raise money for the Good Grief Charity.
She will start at around 04:00 and her route will total 101.36km and total elevation of 2877 meters.
The Good Grief Trust provides information on all grief support in the UK to make it easier for individuals to find the right help for them.
PC Mulroy gave us the story behind her decision to take on this incredible challenge.
“Over the past twelve months, I have seen some of my closest family and friends lose a person integral to their lives. My best friend has very recently lost her Dad to cancer, and although she and her family knew it was going to happen, the grief felt is still just as hard to deal with” she said.
“My sister and partner lost one of their close friends over the summer, after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour immediately after giving birth to her son – something unimaginable. These are just two occasions, however people are losing loved ones every day for a variety of reasons, and they are then left to navigate their grief and new ‘normal’ without a person that had played such an important role in their lives”.
PC Mulroy stated how it dawned on her through this that those left to grieve are often without proper support or just don’t know where to find it.
She continued “as a friend/family, I can only do so much to help, for some it is enough to lean on those close to them, but other’s need more help or a little more support. I went on the internet to see what was out there and to be honest it is a bit of a mind field with google coming up with hundreds of results. I thought that this in itself could be stressful for individuals, just trying to seek some help for themselves”.
Through her search she found the Good Grief trust which has been set up by a woman that lost her husband and through her own experience has put all services and charities in the UK under one umbrella, making it much easier for people to find what they need.
PC Mulroy ended with “grief does not have a timeline and can come and go over years. I have set up this challenge to raise money for the Good Grief Trust so that those who are going through their worst times, may find the support they need”.
She recently completed a 90k multi-terrain race where she finished 4th overall and the 1st female. She unfortunately injured her knee during this, but with the support of her physio, she is confident that she will complete this upcoming challenge.
PC Mulroy hopes to raise as much money as possible and all contributions will help. Unfortunately, we will all experience grief and loss in our lives but believe everyone can relate to this cause in some way.
