Eligibility

For further information, take a look at our full entry requirements.

Serving police officers and those who have recently left policing (within a maximum of 36 months of application date) are invited to apply.

Applicants seeking a role at their substantive rank must have served in that rank for a minimum of 12 months, completed any work-based development processes in their current force and be confirmed in rank.  Those seeking promotion to Sergeant must have a recognised Part 1 qualification for the relevant rank (no more than 5 years old at the start of the process).  This can be a pass at the National Home Office exam for those serving in England and Wales, and those serving in Scotland need to provide proof that they have passed their diploma to come forward for promotion.

Officers from Forces that do not operate a law and procedure part 1 process must be able to demonstrate a suitable equivalence that MDP can check and verify.

In any promotion process where a New Entrant from Other Forces (NEOF) has held the substantive rank within the last 3 years, the officer may apply for that post and undergo a suitability interview, rather than the full promotion process.

Applicants will undergo security vetting at SC level as a minimum and for specific posts DV level clearance is required. All applicants will undergo Police Vetting checks to either Recruit or Management level depending on the role.

New entrants from other Police Forces joining at PS rank will be required to pass the MDP Physical Employment Standards Job-Related Fitness Test (PES-JRFT).

Applicants must be sole British National to be eligible to apply.

Work Based Development – Substantiation Period

Candidates successful on promotion will be hired at their substantive rank and then temporarily promoted to Sergeant whilst they undertake their Work Based Development (WBD) portfolio. This WBD period lasts for 12 months. During this period, successful candidates will be required to attend Work Based Development training at HQ RAF Wyton. Should a candidate go on to be unsuccessful in the WBD process, they will revert to their previous rank.
